VIT Pune MUN to Host Former R&AW Special Secretary Rana Banerji, Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar in Upcoming ‘Colloquium’ Edition
Pune, 30th March 2026: The Vishwakarma Institute of Technology Pune Model United Nations (VIT Pune MUN) continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the most active student-driven platforms dedicated to debate, diplomacy and global awareness. Alongside its flagship annual Model United Nations conference, the organisation also advances its mission through Colloquium, a dignitary-focused e-newspaper that presents perspectives from individuals who have made significant contributions to national security, public policy, defence leadership, global health and international relations.
Through Colloquium, VIT Pune MUN seeks to enhance global awareness by providing access to credible information and practical viewpoints across diverse sectors. By featuring conversations with experts who have played key roles in shaping India’s strategic, administrative and global frameworks, the publication aims to help readers understand the complexities of diplomacy through experience-based insights rather than simplified narratives.
In the upcoming edition, VIT Pune MUN is scheduled to feature Rana Banerji, former Special Secretary at the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). With extensive experience in intelligence and national security, Banerji is expected to share insights on how countries assess emerging threats, manage sensitive information and shape diplomatic strategies that influence global decision-making. His interaction is expected to provide students with a deeper understanding of the operational realities behind international affairs in a world increasingly influenced by cyber threats, shifting alliances and evolving geopolitical challenges.
The edition will also include Lieutenant General (Dr) Madhuri Kanitkar, among the few women to have achieved the rank of Lieutenant General in the Indian Armed Forces. Drawing from her distinguished career in military medicine, defence leadership and academic administration, Kanitkar is expected to highlight the growing importance of global health diplomacy. Her insights are likely to focus on how medical preparedness, crisis management and international cooperation contribute to strengthening global stability, particularly in the context of emerging health challenges.
Apart from intellectual engagement, VIT Pune MUN is also preparing to undertake community-oriented initiatives as part of its broader social outreach. Under the “For the People” initiative, the organising committee plans to collaborate with UPAY NGO to support efforts aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). The initiative will involve community interaction and awareness activities on menstrual hygiene, with a focus on dignity, equitable access and essential health resources.
The organisation is also planning environmental engagement through its “For the Planet” initiative. Members are expected to participate in the Vasundhara Abhiyan at Baner Hills by volunteering at Dr Garudkar Biodiversity Park. Activities such as watering saplings and supporting ecological restoration are intended to contribute to SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in environmental protection.
Meanwhile, the VIT Pune Model United Nations Conference is scheduled to take place from April 3 to April 5, 2025. The conference will provide delegates with opportunities to participate in structured debates, negotiations and policymaking simulations across various global agendas. The event aims to create a platform where students can gain practical exposure to international diplomacy through informed dialogue and active participation.
Interested participants can register for the conference through the official registration link available on the organisation’s digital platforms.
Through initiatives such as Colloquium, expert interactions and social outreach programmes, VIT Pune MUN aims to encourage students to develop informed perspectives on global issues while promoting meaningful dialogue and engagement with contemporary international affairs.
