60-year-old Woman Killed as Tree Falls during Heavy Rain in Sinhagad Road area
Pune, 2nd April 2026: A 60-year-old woman died after a tree collapsed on her near P L Deshpande Garden, located on the Sinhagad Road area on Thursday afternoon, as unseasonal rain accompanied by strong winds swept across the city.
The woman, identified as Ranjana Navnath Giri, was a resident of Anandnagar and earned a living by selling flowers and garlands from a makeshift stall set up beneath an old peepal tree.
According to officials, the tree was uprooted due to gusty winds and heavy rain.
Giri sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed during treatment. In the same incident, two more people were also rescued by the agencies and they sustained minor injuries.
The sudden weather change triggered multiple incidents of tree falls and uprooting across Pune, while some areas also reported hail showers in Pune.
Localities including Dhayari, Sinhagad Road, Kharadi, Balajinagar, Hadapsar, Lohegaon, Bibwewadi, Sadashiv Peth and Kothrud witnessed intense rainfall during the day.
