Pune, 3rd April 2026: Transferring chat history on WhatsApp from an iPhone to an Android device is now simpler and more secure, thanks to the platform’s official cross-platform migration feature that removes the need for third-party apps.

As reported by Dainik Jagran, users can now move their chats, including messages, photos, videos and voice notes, directly during the setup of a new Android phone. The feature is designed to make switching between iOS and Android devices seamless while preserving important data.

The process begins by ensuring both devices are updated and connected. During the Android phone’s initial setup, users are prompted to copy data from an iPhone. At this stage, the two devices must be connected using a compatible cable. A QR code is displayed on the Android device and must be scanned on the iPhone to initiate the transfer process.

Alternatively, users can start the transfer manually by going into WhatsApp settings on the iPhone and selecting the “Move Chats to Android” option. Once confirmed, the migration begins, securely transferring chat history and media files to the new device.

Experts and official documentation from Google highlight that the transfer is end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that personal conversations remain private throughout the process. This marks a significant improvement over earlier methods, which often relied on unreliable third-party tools and carried risks of data loss or security breaches.

However, there are a few limitations users should be aware of. While chat messages and media files are transferred, certain data, such as call history and payment information, may not be included. Additionally, the Android device must be either new or factory reset for the transfer option to appear, and users should avoid opening WhatsApp on the new device until the migration is complete.

The introduction of this feature addresses a long-standing challenge for users switching ecosystems. By enabling a secure and straightforward transfer process, WhatsApp has streamlined one of the most common pain points for smartphone users, making it easier to retain years of conversations while upgrading or changing devices.
