Baramati, 4th April 2026: NCP leader and former Deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s son Jay Pawar on Saturday said that the bypoll elections for Baramati constituency is deeply emotional for the people of Baramati and expressed hope that it would be held unopposed.

Ajit Dada’s untimely demise has left Baramati in grief, and people are yet to recover from the loss. There is a sentiment across leaders that the election should be uncontested,” he said.

Jay acknowledged that there have been varying statements from the Congress regarding contesting the seat but said efforts would be made to appeal to leaders across parties to support an unopposed election. “However, if the election is held democratically, we are confident that the people of Baramati will stand by us, keeping Ajit Dada’s work in mind,” he added.

The seat fell vacant after Ajit Pawar’s demise, prompting the bypoll. His wife and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar is set to contest the election, with her nomination filing scheduled for April 6.

Jay Pawar said senior leaders including Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde have been invited for the filing of nomination papers. He added that senior Nationalist Congress Party leaders such as Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare and Chhagan Bhujbal are also expected to be present.

Jay Pawar was speaking to reporters after visiting farms in the region affected by recent rains. Responding on the investigation into the aircraft crash involving Ajit Pawar, he said that some details had already been made public by Rohit Pawar, and he would comment further once the final report is available.

On speculation about a possible party merger, he said the matter is at a senior level, adding that the Pawar family remains united despite the recent loss.
