Koregaon Park Railway Overbridge Delay: Pune Police Commissioner Writes to PMC Seeking Action Against Contractor
Koregaon Park, 6th April 2026: The Pune Police Commissioner has written to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) urging action against the contractor responsible for the construction of the new Sadhu Vaswani Bridge in Koregaon Park, citing significant delays that are causing traffic congestion in the area.
In a letter to Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar recommended that the contractor and the executing company be blacklisted for failing to complete the project on time.
According to the letter, the PMC had awarded the contract for the bridge construction to M/s SMC Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., while the work is being carried out by Krishnai Infrastructure. The project began in June 2024 and was expected to be completed within 18 months. However, even after 22 months, the work remains incomplete.
The letter stated that only about 40 to 50 per cent of the work has been completed so far, leading to increased traffic pressure on North Main Road and causing inconvenience to commuters. It also noted that the contractor had failed to follow up with various departments regarding the shifting of an obstructing water pipeline. Additionally, no traffic wardens have been deployed at the site to manage congestion.
The Police Commissioner further pointed out that, considering the current pace of work, the project is unlikely to be completed even within the next year. In view of the delay and the inconvenience caused to citizens, the letter recommended that the contractor and the company be blacklisted.
Responding to the development, PMC Chief Engineer (Project Department) Dinkar Gojare said that about 85 per cent of the work has already been completed. He added that the shifting of a 1,000-mm diameter water pipeline, which had created an obstacle during the project, is currently underway.
Gojare said the flyover construction could be completed within the next four months and maintained that there is no question of blacklisting the contractor.
