RTE Admission 2026 Maharashtra: Over 1.05 Lakh Students Selected, Admissions Begin April 11
Pune, 11th April 2026: The Maharashtra Primary Education Department has announced the selection of over 1.05 lakh children from the general category and 582 children from the Divyang(children with disabilities) category for admissions under the 25% quota of the Right to Education (RTE) Act in private schools for the academic year 2026–27.
According to officials, parents of selected candidates can begin confirming admissions from April 11, with the final deadline set for April 20.
The admissions are being conducted under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, which mandates that private unaided and self-financed schools reserve 25% seats for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections.
The selection list was released on April 6 through an online lottery system. A total of 2,89,385 applications were received for 1,14,826 seats available across 8,701 eligible schools in Maharashtra.
Out of the total selections, 1,05,229 children from the general category and 582 from the दिव्यांग category have secured seats. Additionally, 86,004 children from the general category and 30 from the Divyang category have been placed on the waiting list.
The department has begun sending SMS notifications to parents on their registered mobile numbers. However, Primary Education Director Sharad Gosavi has urged parents not to rely solely on SMS alerts and to verify selection status on the official RTE portal.
Parents of selected students are required to visit the respective Group Education Officer or Administrative Officer for document verification. After scrutiny and approval by the verification committee, eligible candidates will receive an online confirmation, enabling them to complete the admission process in their allotted schools.
Officials have stressed that admissions must be completed within the stipulated deadline, failing which seats may be offered to candidates on the waiting list.
District-wise, Pune recorded the highest number of applications and selections, with 54,683 applications received for 18,060 seats, out of which 17,728 students have been selected. Thane reported 25,021 applications for 11,754 seats, with 10,578 selections. Nagpur saw 25,388 applications and 6,992 selections, while Nashik recorded 17,542 applications with 5,326 selections.
