Pune, 13th April 2026: The water supply department of the Pune Municipal Corporation under the Bund Garden division has flagged large-scale wastage of drinking water in areas under its jurisdiction, attributing it to overflowing overhead tanks in residential premises.

Officials said water supply in these areas is being carried out in different time slots as per zoning, and periodic inspections have been conducted. During these visits, it was observed that several households do not have ball valves (ball cocks) installed in their overhead tanks, leading to frequent overflow and significant water wastage.

In an advisory issued to residents on Monday, the department has urged citizens to install ball cocks in their water tanks, especially during the ongoing summer season, to prevent overflow and conserve drinking water.

The department has warned that if wastage continues due to negligence, action will be initiated against violators under the relevant provisions of the Mumbai Provincial Municipal Corporation Act, 1949.
