Pune Metro Pushes Last-Mile Connectivity with Feeder Buses, Auto Services
Kothrud, 14th April 2026: Pune Metro officials recently presented details of the proposed Metro Line 4 (Khadakwasla–Hadapsar–Kharadi) and Line 4A (Karvenagar–Warje–Manikbaug) projects to residents during a public outreach programme held at Ichalkaranji Hall in Karvenagar.
The event, organised under the ‘Pune Metro Samvad’ initiative, aimed to inform citizens about the approved corridors and gather feedback from local residents. Minister for Higher and Technical Education and Parliamentary Affairs Chandrakant Patil attended the programme as the chief guest. Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar (IAS), Director Atul Gadgil, and other officials were also present.
Hardikar gave a detailed presentation on the current status of Pune Metro and the proposed Line 4 and 4A corridors, stating that the project is expected to be completed in approximately four years.
Once operational, the corridors are expected to reduce travel time and provide improved connectivity for residents of Kothrud, Karvenagar, Warje, and surrounding areas, while also helping ease traffic congestion.
Officials also highlighted measures to strengthen last-mile connectivity, including the ongoing shuttle bus service and prepaid auto-rickshaw facility from SNDT Metro Station to Kothrud. Coordination with PMPML is underway to introduce additional buses to function as feeder services to the Metro network.
The presentation also covered plans for Transit Oriented Development (TOD) along Metro corridors and the integration of various modes of public transport to ensure seamless connectivity between buses, auto-rickshaws, and Metro services.
Residents from Kothrud, Karvenagar, and Sinhagad Road areas attended the programme in large numbers and raised queries regarding the project, which were addressed by officials.
Speaking at the event, Chandrakant Patil said that when the Metro project was introduced in Pune in 2016, it was seen as a distant goal, but has now become an important part of daily commuting. He also credited financial support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the progress of the project.
Hardikar said the future of urban mobility in Pune depends not only on infrastructure but also on increased use of public transport and walking. He added that the Metro aims to provide a reliable and sustainable mode of daily transport.
The event was attended by former corporators Rajabhau Barate, Puneet Joshi, Sushil Mengde, Shivrampant Mengde, Manjusha Khardekar, Reshma Barate, and Tejashree Pawale, along with officials from the Municipal Corporation and Maha Metro.
Officials said the outreach initiative aimed to improve transparency and public awareness about the project and received an encouraging response from citizens.
