New Syllabus for Classes 2, 3, 4 in Maharashtra; Teachers to Undergo Mandatory Training
Pune, 14th April 2026: The Maharashtra School Education Department will introduce a revised curriculum for Classes 2, 3, and 4 from the academic year 2026–27, with mandatory teacher training scheduled to begin on May 4.
According to an official circular issued by State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Joint Director Dr. Kamaladevi Awate, the training programme has been designed to ensure teachers are prepared before the new academic year begins on June 15. The sessions will be conducted in three phases at the state, district, and taluka levels.
State-level training for Marathi and Urdu medium teachers will be held from May 4 to 7, followed by district-level training from May 11 to 14. The final phase at the taluka level will take place between May 18 and 30. Teachers from other mediums will be trained alongside Marathi medium teachers at the district level.
Officials said Urdu medium training will be limited to the state and district levels. Resource persons selected at the state level will also support training in subsequent phases. Institutions have been instructed to submit the names of facilitators by April 20.
The department clarified that Class 6 is not included in the current revision plan and will be addressed separately.
Private unaided and self-financed schools may also conduct similar training for their teachers;
however, no financial assistance will be provided.
Education experts have noted that delays or inconsistencies in the curriculum rollout could raise concerns about implementation planning.
