Pune: Sinhagad Fort Cleanliness Drive Highlights Need for Heritage Conservation

Sinhagad Fort,14th April 2026: Students from the Journalism and Mass Communication Department of Vishwakarma University, Pune, organised a cleanliness drive at Sinhagad Fort on April 13, with the aim of promoting heritage conservation and public awareness.
As part of the initiative, students carried out cleaning activities at several key locations on the fort, including the ammunition storage area, the samadhi of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj, the samadhi of Narveer Tanaji Malusare, and Devtake.
The drive aimed not only to preserve the historical significance of the fort but also to sensitise visitors about the importance of maintaining cleanliness at heritage sites.
Alongside the activity, students were briefed on the history of the Maratha Empire, the strategic importance of Sinhagad Fort, and key historical events associated with the site, providing them with on-ground learning exposure.
Speaking about the initiative, Prof. Shekhar Paigude said that understanding history is important for journalism students and that such activities help instil a sense of responsibility towards preserving heritage sites while also creating awareness about tourism-related challenges and opportunities.
Participants said the initiative encouraged a sense of social responsibility and expressed willingness to take part in similar activities in the future.
