PMC Issues Show-Cause Notices to Four Contractors Over Poor Road-Sweeping Work
Pune, 9th September 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued show-cause notices to four private contractors over alleged lapses in road-sweeping and cleanliness work across several parts of the city.
The notices were issued by Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajit Nair to Global Waste Management, Priyanka Enterprises, Siddhivinayak Enterprises and Sumit Facilities after PMC inspections found that road-sweeping operations were not being carried out as per prescribed standards.
The PMC has outsourced road-sweeping work in different parts of the city to private contractors through a tender process. The civic body has also launched a three-month pilot performance-based road-sweeping project aimed at improving the quality and accountability of road-cleaning services.
Garbage, dust found along Satara Road
On September 2, Nair and Solid Waste Management Department Deputy Commissioner Santosh Warule jointly inspected Satara Road.
During the inspection, officials found significant quantities of garbage, dry waste and plastic along the roadside. Dust, soil and silt had also accumulated on footpaths, road dividers and along the edges of the road.
The inspection further found that sweeping had not been carried out continuously along the road. Officials noted that passing vehicles were stirring up dust from the uncleared stretches, potentially contributing to local dust and air pollution.
Eight areas under scrutiny
The notices relate to road-sweeping operations under eight PMC regional offices: Satara Road, Yerawada-Vadgaon Sheri, Dhole Patil Road, Shivajinagar-Ghole Road, Dhankawadi-Katraj, Aundh-Baner, Hadapsar-Manjari and Sinhagad Road.
PMC has warned the contractors that failure to provide a satisfactory explanation could invite financial and administrative action, including penalties, forfeiture of security deposits, cancellation of contracts and blacklisting.

Additional Commissioner Prajit Nair said the contractors had been entrusted with maintaining cleanliness on roads and surrounding areas and were expected to fulfil their responsibilities as per the terms of their contracts.
“During PMC inspections, it was found that road-sweeping was not being carried out in several areas. Therefore, notices have been issued to the concerned contractors seeking an explanation,” Nair said.
The civic administration will examine the responses submitted by the contractors and decide on further action based on their explanations and inspection findings.
