Pune, 14th April 2026: Days after an anonymous letter triggered fresh controversy in the ‘godman’ Ashok Kharat case in Beed by levelling serious allegations against NCP leader Rupali Chakankar and her family, the latter on Tuesday issued a statement denying any link to the case and rejecting the claims as baseless.

In a post on X, Chakankar said neither she nor her family had any involvement in alleged financial transactions, land dealings or any other wrongdoing connected to the case. She described the allegations as “fabricated” and aimed at defaming her.

Chakankar said that while allegations in Maharashtra’s political sphere are typically supported by evidence and scrutinised in the public domain, in her case, no proof had been presented even after nearly a month. “It has been 28 days, but neither those making the allegations nor sections of the media have produced any evidence,” she said, alleging a deliberate attempt to tarnish her image.

Questioning the credibility of the anonymous letter circulating online, Chakankar asked how it reached those publicising it and why it was shared without verification. She claimed that the letter, reportedly received by the police, had been selectively leaked to the media to fuel speculation. “There should be an inquiry into who authored the letter, how it surfaced and who facilitated its circulation,” she said.

Citing Beed superintendent of police Navneet Kanwat, Chakankar said an unsigned letter without a sender’s address holds no legal value and cannot be treated as credible evidence. She reiterated the need for a detailed probe into the origin of the document and those behind it.

She also flagged what she described as a “dangerous trend” of targeting individuals through rumours and unverified claims, leading to mental harassment. Maintaining that she has consistently denied any connection with the Kharat case, Chakankar said she had refrained from responding earlier to allow the SIT and other investigating agencies to carry out an impartial probe.

According to sources, the anonymous letter was sent from Beed to NCP leader Rupali Thombre and alleges that a local woman office-bearer facilitated sending women to Ashok Kharat, purportedly with Chakankar’s backing. The claims, seen as serious, have triggered political reactions and raised questions over the alleged network mentioned in the letter.
