Pune Police Bust M.D. Drug Racket in Viman Nagar; Two Arrested, Contraband and Vehicles Worth Rs 26.7 Lakh Seized
Viman Nagar, 15th April 2026: In a major crackdown on narcotics, the Vimantal (Airport) Police Station successfully apprehended two individuals involved in the illicit sale of Mephedrone (M.D.) drugs. The police seized contraband and vehicles collectively valued at Rs 26,71,800 during the operation.
The sequence of events began on April 8, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM. While the Vimantal Police investigative team was on routine patrol within their jurisdiction, Police Constables Hari Punde and Lalu K-he received a tip-off from a confidential informant. The informant revealed that a man was scheduled to arrive on the road leading from Janak Baba Dargah Chowk (near Kharadi Bypass) towards Forest Park to sell M.D. drugs.
Upon conveying this information to Police Inspector (Crime) Sharad Shelke, an immediate order was issued to verify the tip and take action. Following his directives, the police squad laid a trap and detained a suspect identified as Pritam Prafulla Kulkarni (Age 37, resident of Vadgaon Sheri, Pune). During the search, officers confiscated 3.59 grams of M.D. powder and a motorcycle from his possession.
A thorough interrogation of Kulkarni while in police custody revealed the involvement of a second accused. Acting on this lead, the police arrested Ubed Ansar Khan (Age 27, occupation driver, resident of Hadapsar). Khan was apprehended in the Khulewadi area when he arrived to sell the narcotics. The police seized an additional 4 grams of M.D. powder and a Mahindra Scorpio SUV from him.
The total value of the seized M.D. drugs and the two vehicles amounts to an estimated Rs 26,71,800. Further investigation into the case is currently being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Nitin Rathod.
The action was taken under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Polic (East Region) Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 07) Somay Munde and ACP (Kharadi Division) Pranjali Sonawane.
The team included Police Inspector (Crime) Sharad Shelke, Police Sub-Inspector Nitin Rathod and police personnel Lalu K-he, Hariprasad Punde, Ankush Jogdande, Yogesh Thopate, Rupesh Pisal, Sachin Manjare, Rahul Joshi, Prashant Sutar, Sagar Kasar, and Ambadas Chavan.
