Pune Ring Road Demolition: Farmer Left Homeless in Mulshi, Sparks Outrage

Pune, 22nd April 2026: A distressing incident from Rihe village in Mulshi tehsil of Pune district has once again highlighted the human cost of large infrastructure projects, after authorities demolished the house and cattle shed of a local farmer for the Pune Ring Road project.

Farmer Vilas Shinde’s residence, along with his livestock shelter and other structures, was razed during an official demolition drive carried out in the presence of police. The action has left the family without shelter, forcing them to live in the open amid intense summer heat.

The land on which the structures stood has been acquired for the project. However, the farmer has reportedly not received compensation, as the matter remains pending before a court. Despite this, authorities proceeded with the demolition, raising concerns over due process and administrative sensitivity.

Shinde had sought a brief extension before the demolition, but his request was denied. The operation also involved the removal of a cattle shed housing cows and calves, leaving the livestock exposed to harsh weather conditions along with the family.

Eyewitnesses described emotional scenes at the site, with family members watching helplessly as their home was brought down. Allegations have also been raised about the manner in which the demolition was conducted, including claims of heavy police deployment and a lack of consideration for the family’s situation.
