Pune: Garbage-Clogged Stream in Wadgaon Khurd Cleared After Weeks of Complaints
Reported by Shoaib Tadvi
Wadgaon Khurd, 23rd April 2026: After nearly two to three weeks of persistent complaints and rising health concerns, the garbage-choked stream near Sinhgad PMAY Society in Wadgaon Khurd has been cleared by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
The issue had led to severe water stagnation and a spike in mosquito breeding, raising fears among residents about potential outbreaks of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria. Locals had repeatedly approached authorities, alleging delayed response despite multiple follow-ups.
Following sustained pressure from residents, the Sinhagad Road Regional Office initiated a clean-up drive on April 22, deploying heavy machinery along with a specialised “spider machine” to remove accumulated waste and restore the natural flow of water in the stream.
Ward Officer Vijaykumar Waghmode confirmed the development, stating that the blockage has been completely cleared and the cleaning operation was carried out using appropriate equipment.
Visuals from the site show a marked improvement, with the previously clogged and stagnant stretch now cleared, enabling smoother drainage and reducing immediate health risks.
While residents have welcomed the action, they stressed the need for a long-term solution to prevent recurrence. A major concern remains the narrow bridge over the stream, which often traps floating debris and leads to repeated blockages.
Local resident and former society president Sachin Deshmukh said that regular monitoring and periodic cleaning are essential to avoid a similar situation in the future.
With the monsoon season approaching, residents have urged the civic body to implement a structured maintenance plan to ensure uninterrupted water flow and prevent further accumulation of waste.
The incident underscores the importance of timely civic intervention as well as sustained citizen engagement in addressing local infrastructure and sanitation issues.
