Wagholi, 23rd April 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee has approved a proposal to develop the Kesnand Phata–Dube Nagar Phata road in Wagholi as a “world-class” model road, aimed at improving infrastructure and easing traffic congestion in the rapidly growing suburb.

The proposal was presented in the context of the planned development of 32 newly merged villages within PMC limits. Officials said the project is expected to enhance connectivity and bring a positive change in the quality of life for residents in the area.

Wagholi has witnessed rapid urbanisation in recent years, leading to a significant increase in traffic on this key stretch, commonly referred to as Road No. 68. Recognising the need for immediate upgrades, the civic body has proposed modern infrastructure improvements along the route.

The project will focus on road widening, construction of well-designed footpaths, improved drainage systems, street lighting, and other essential civic amenities to meet contemporary urban standards.

The PMC is also considering developing at least one “model” or “world-class” road in each zone to set benchmarks for sustainable urban infrastructure. Officials believe the Wagholi project could serve as a pilot initiative in this direction.

The proposal was moved by committee member Ratnamala Satav, who urged the administration to take up the project on priority. Confirming the approval, Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the administration has been directed to initiate necessary action.

Further details regarding timelines and budget allocation are expected to be finalised in the next phase.
