Pune: Hinjawadi’s Entry-Exit Points Choke as Infrastructure Gaps Persist Ahead of Monsoon
Hinjawadi, 24th April 2026: Traffic congestion at the entry and exit points of Hinjawadi IT City has intensified in recent weeks, with commuters and tech professionals raising concerns over deteriorating road conditions and incomplete infrastructure work. Key access routes, particularly the underpasses at Wakad Bridge, have emerged as major bottlenecks, significantly slowing vehicular movement during peak hours.
Daily commuters attribute the situation to a combination of factors. Narrow approach roads at critical junctions, frequent instances of wrong-side driving, and ongoing utility work—especially pipeline-related excavation—have reduced the effective road width, leading to prolonged traffic snarls. Congestion is most severe during office hours, with long queues of vehicles stretching across key stretches connecting Wakad and Hinjawadi.
The problem is compounded by the poor condition of roads across the IT hub. Several internal roads, along with entry and exit points, are riddled with large potholes and uneven surfaces. In multiple locations, drainage chambers remain exposed or are not aligned with the road level, posing a serious safety risk, particularly for two-wheeler riders.
With the monsoon season approaching, concerns are mounting over a repeat of last year’s situation, when Hinjawadi witnessed severe waterlogging following heavy rainfall. Experts warn that existing potholes and inadequate drainage infrastructure could exacerbate flooding, leading to hazardous commuting conditions and possible traffic paralysis.
Tech professionals working in the area have expressed growing frustration, noting that despite Hinjawadi’s status as a major IT hub, basic road infrastructure continues to lag behind.
