Pune: Alphonso Mango Distribution Brings Joy to Blind School Students in Koregaon Park
Koregaon Park, 25th April 2026: In a heartwarming initiative marking a memorial day, a city-based foundation distributed Alphonso mangoes to visually impaired children at a school in Koregaon Park, bringing smiles to their faces during the summer season.
The programme was organised by the Payal Tiwari Bitiya Foundation in memory of Payal Tiwari, daughter of former Pune Shikshan Mandal president Sangeeta Tiwari. As part of the initiative, students of the Pune Blind School were treated to the popular ‘Hapus’ mangoes sourced from the Konkan region, known for their rich taste and aroma.
Alphonso mangoes, often referred to as the ‘king of mangoes’, are widely exchanged among families across Maharashtra and the country during summer. Recognising that many children from underprivileged backgrounds may not get to enjoy the fruit, the foundation has been organising this distribution drive for the past 16 years.
The school caters to visually impaired students from across the state and provides them with free education. Most of the children come from economically weaker sections, making such initiatives particularly meaningful.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangeeta Tiwari said the effort aims to ensure that these children experience simple joys like tasting seasonal fruits and to bring happiness to their lives in memory of her daughter.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including former mayor Prashant Jagtap, Shiv Sena leader and social worker Ajay Bhosale, Senior Police Inspector Vijaykumar Doke of Koregaon Park Police Station, Police Sub-Inspector Shrikant Chavan, along with Suvarna Mane, Raj Lele, Harsh Tiwari, Punmeet Tiwari, Grace Bhalerao, Parul Tai, social activist Dilnawaz Damania, Bharati Londhe and Kaka Jagtap.
