Pune Crime: 4-Member Gang Arrested for Robbery in Baner, Rs 40,000 Recovered
Baner, 25th April 2026: The Pune City Police have arrested a four-member gang for robbing a pedestrian of Rs 40,000 under the false pretext of a body search. The arrests follow a sweeping investigation that involved analyzing footage from over 70 CCTV cameras across the city.
The incident took place on April 12, 2026. According to the police complaint, the victim was walking with an office colleague outside Sai Residency in Sutarwadi, Pune, when they were intercepted by four unidentified men riding two black scooters.
Employing a deceptive modus operandi, the accused confronted the victims and accused them of stealing their bank card. Insisting on a “search,” the gang aggressively cornered the complainant, threatened him with physical assault, and forcibly snatched Rs 40,000 in cash from his pocket before fleeing the spot.
Following a complaint, an FIR (No. 111/2026) was registered at the Baner Police Station under Sections 309(4) (Robbery) and 3(5) (joint liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Investigation and Arrests
The investigation team from the Baner Police Station immediately swung into action, scanning footage from exactly 72 CCTV cameras in and around the incident spot to track the gang’s escape route.
The technical intelligence led the police to the Milind Nagar area in Pimpri, where the suspects were apprehended. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime. The police have also confiscated the two black scooters used during the robbery.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
Dinesh Balu Mandpe (33), resident of Adeshnagar, Pimpri.
Rohan Ramesh Suryavanshi (31), resident of Milind Nagar, Pimpri.
Laxman Krishna Valhekar (46), resident of Adarshnagar, Pimpri.
Santosh Ram Kampa (31), resident of Milind Nagar, Pimpri.
The successful operation was executed under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Chulumula Rajanikant, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Khadki Division) Vitthal Dabade.
The on-ground investigation team was led by Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant and Police Inspector (Crime) Alka Sarag, with support from API K.B. Daberav, API Ganesh Raykar, and constabulary staff including Baba Aher, Kisan Shinge, Ganesh Gaikwad, Atul Ingle, Gajanan Awtarik, Pradip Kharat, Sharad Raut, and others .
