Pune, 27th April 2026: A proposal aimed at providing relief to street vendors by reducing daily fees and offering penalty waivers on pending dues is set to be taken up in the upcoming general body meeting of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

The proposal suggests a 5 per cent reduction in the daily charges levied on street vendors. It also recommends the introduction of an “Abhay Yojana” (amnesty scheme), under which vendors could receive a 75 per cent waiver on penalties imposed on their outstanding dues, provided they opt for a one-time settlement.

The proposal was moved in the standing committee by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporators Suhas Tingre and Dr Nandini Dhende. While the PMC administration submitted a negative opinion on the proposal, the standing committee chose to forward it to the general body for a final decision, accepting the administration’s remarks but not rejecting the proposal.

Following the administration’s adverse feedback, corporator Tingre had demanded that the opinion be set aside and the proposal be considered on its merits.

The final decision now rests with the PMC general body, which is expected to deliberate on the proposal in its May meeting. The outcome will determine whether street vendors receive financial relief or are required to pay the pending penalties in full.
