Pune, 5th May 2026: Two senior police officers of Pune City Police were suspended after being caught accepting bribes in separate cases, triggering a stir within the city police force.

The suspended officers have been identified as Assistant Police Inspector Vaishali Totewar and Police Sub-Inspector Manoj Barure. The action followed back-to-back operations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, which caught both officers red-handed on consecutive days.

Totewar, who was recently relieved on promotion and was to join as Police Inspector (Railways) in Mumbai on May 1, was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 27 lakh through a private intermediary near Kondre Hotel. Taking serious note of the misconduct, Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjankumar Sharma ordered her suspension, stating that such corrupt practices tarnish the image of the police department.

In a separate case, PSI Manoj Barure was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 at the Lohegaon Police Station. According to officials, he had allegedly demanded the money in connection with a non-cognisable offence registered against a 17-year-old boy.

Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil ordered Barure’s suspension, citing serious misconduct, corruption, and moral turpitude while discharging official duties.
