Mumbai, 12th May 2026: In a move aimed at streamlining approvals for large public gatherings and entertainment programmes, the Maharashtra government is planning to introduce a single-window clearance system for live events such as concerts, IPL matches, cultural programmes and political rallies.

The state has constituted a 25-member committee headed by Brijesh Singh, principal secretary and director general of information and public relations (DGIPR), to prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the proposed mechanism. Singh has also been appointed as the nodal officer for the initiative.

The proposal follows a government resolution issued by the General Administration Department last month for setting up the committee.

Officials said organisers currently need to secure permissions from multiple departments and agencies before conducting events. On average, around 58 separate approvals are required for a single event.

The initiative is part of the state’s broader Ease of Doing Business push and is aligned with the Centre’s efforts to promote the live events sector as an economic growth driver. The Union government has already established a Live Events Development Cell (LEDC) and prepared a model executive framework for event clearances.

Under the proposed system, the LEDC at Mantralaya will function as a facilitation centre where organisers can submit applications for permissions through a unified process.

The state government aims to ensure that all required approvals are granted within 15 days, officials said.

The proposed single-window platform is expected to digitally handle the processing, coordination, tracking, approval, modification and monitoring of licences and permissions required for organising live events across Maharashtra.
