Pune, 13th May 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in Pune till May 14 as temperatures continue to rise sharply across Maharashtra. Along with Pune, 11 other districts — Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Akola and Amravati — are also under alert.

The weather department said maximum temperatures in these districts are likely to remain significantly above normal over the next few days.

On Tuesday, Lohegaon recorded Pune’s highest temperature at 43.2 degrees Celsius. Shivajinagar and Koregaon Park both recorded 40.8 degrees Celsius.

Other parts of Pune district also witnessed intense heat. Magarpatta recorded 41 degrees Celsius, Daund 40.6 degrees Celsius, Rajgurunagar 40.2 degrees Celsius, Haveli 40.1 degrees Celsius, Ambegaon 39.9 degrees Celsius, NDA 39.8 degrees Celsius, Hadapsar 39.4 degrees Celsius, Chinchwad 38.9 degrees Celsius and Pashan 38.6 degrees Celsius. Malin recorded a relatively lower temperature of 36.5 degrees Celsius.

Minimum temperatures have also remained high, resulting in warm and uncomfortable nights. Weather officials said there has been no significant drop in night temperatures.

The IMD has predicted that heatwave conditions are likely to persist for at least the next three days across parts of Madhya Maharashtra, North Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Clear skies are expected to keep temperatures high, with little possibility of relief.

Officials have advised citizens to avoid stepping out during the afternoon, drink sufficient water and take necessary precautions to prevent heatstroke.

Temperatures across Maharashtra have been rising steadily since the beginning of May. While many cities are recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, some areas in Vidarbha and Marathwada are nearing 45 degrees Celsius. The extreme heat has reduced outdoor activity during the afternoon, while hot and humid nights are also causing discomfort.
