Maharashtra Mandates 70% Local Reservation in Cooperative Bank Recruitment
Pune, 13th May 2026: The Maharashtra government has decided to give preference to local candidates in recruitment processes conducted by District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) across the state.
According to a government resolution issued by the Maharashtra Cooperation, Marketing and Textiles Department, 70 per cent of vacancies in district cooperative banks will now be reserved for candidates who are residents of the concerned district and possess domicile certificates. The remaining 30 per cent of posts will remain open to candidates from outside the district.
The government has also clarified that if a sufficient number of candidates from outside the district are not available, those vacancies may be filled by local candidates.
The decision will also apply to district cooperative banks that had issued recruitment advertisements before the government resolution was announced.
Officials said candidates will continue to be selected through a competitive examination process, and recruitment will remain merit-based.
Banking expert Vidyadhar Anaskar said the decision has both advantages and disadvantages. He noted that local candidates could help improve banks’ business growth, as they are familiar with the district and local conditions. Their presence may also enhance operational efficiency.
However, he cautioned that if enough qualified local candidates are not available, banks may have to lower eligibility cut-off marks, which could affect the overall quality of recruitment.
The decision is expected to benefit local job seekers and increase employment opportunities at the district level.
