Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Shivajinagar, 18th May 2026: The Pune city unit of the Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar faction on Monday staged a bullock cart and horse carriage protest march outside the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) against the rising prices of petrol and diesel.
The agitation was organised under the guidance of city president Shrikant Patil, with party leaders and workers accusing the Central government of burdening common citizens through continuous fuel price hikes.
Protesters claimed that the increasing fuel prices have disrupted the financial planning of ordinary families and further fuelled inflation. They demanded an immediate reduction in petrol and diesel prices and warned of a more intense agitation if the government fails to act.
As part of the demonstration, party workers used bullock carts and tongas while raising slogans against the Centre’s fuel pricing policies. The protest created a buzz near the PMC building for some time and drew the attention of passersby.
Among those present during the agitation were group leader Kakasaheb Chavan, women’s wing president Swati Pokale, corporator Gafur Pathan, corporator Anita Ingle, Ravindra Malwadkar, Deepak Jagtap, Ajinkya Palakar, Harshad Jadhav, Pravin Tupe, Makarand Deshmukh, Vandana Modak, Dilshad Attar, Urmila Gund, Jayshree Adamane, Megha Satav, along with several party office-bearers and workers.
