Pune, 29th October 2026: A 22-year-old engineering student from Hyderabad died after falling from the eighth floor of a residential building in Kothrud at around 3 am on Thursday.

Police suspect that he may have jumped, although the circumstances leading to his death remain unclear.

The deceased, identified as Abhijit Shetty, had been residing in Pune for the past two to three years to pursue his engineering degree. He was a third-year Electronics and Telecommunication (ENTC) engineering student at an MIT college in Kothrud.

According to preliminary police information, Shetty had reportedly been experiencing stress over pending subjects in his engineering course in recent days. However, investigators have yet to establish whether this had any connection with the incident.

After the fall, Shetty was found critically injured and taken to a hospital. He reportedly died before medical treatment could be initiated.

Kothrud police have registered a case of accidental death and launched an investigation to establish the sequence of events and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
