Cockroach Janta Party’s X Account Withheld in India After Viral Social Media Surge
New Delhi, 21st May 2026: India’s newest viral political satire phenomenon, the “Cockroach Janta Party”, has sparked massive attention on social media after its Instagram account reportedly crossed 13 million followers within just six days, overtaking even the official follower count of the BJP on the platform.
Amid the sudden surge in popularity, the party’s account on X (formerly Twitter) has now been withheld in India, triggering further debate online. The reason behind the action has not yet been officially disclosed.
Abhijeet Deepke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, confirmed the development and claimed that attempts were also made to suspend the group’s Instagram account. “When the Instagram account could not be shut down, our X account was withheld in India,” he alleged.
Deepke said the group had not planned to launch a political movement and described the party as an “accidental creation”. “Our party is only four days old. We did not create it with a strategy or political roadmap. First, we want to understand the views and expectations of our one crore followers and interact with them,” he said.
He added that the group intends to engage with supporters to understand public grievances before taking any concrete political decisions. “This movement is going to become bigger and it will definitely change the politics of the country,” he claimed.
According to Deepke, the formation of the Cockroach Janta Party was triggered after remarks made by the Chief Justice of India, though he did not specify the exact context. He said the initiative was aimed at questioning institutions and those in power, irrespective of political affiliation.
“Today the BJP is in power, so questions will naturally be asked of them. But every political party that interferes with institutions will also be questioned,” he said.
Deepke also criticised what he described as a “reverse journey of democracy” in the country. “Earlier, people used to decide which government would come to power. Now, the government is deciding who should vote and who should not,” he alleged.
