Pune, 22nd May 2026: In a major anti-drug enforcement operation, the Maharashtra State Police on Friday destroyed around 2,400 kilograms of seized ganja valued at approximately Rs 48.36 lakh through a scientifically regulated incineration process at Maharashtra Enviro Power Limited (MEPL) in Ranjangaon near Pune.

According to the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), the contraband ganja had been seized in connection with Crime No. 3036/2010 registered at Bhadrakali Police Station in Nashik City. The destruction process was carried out under the supervision of a High-Level Drugs Disposal Committee (HLDDC) constituted as per legal guidelines governing the disposal of narcotic substances.

Police officials stated that the committee comprised the Inspector General (IG) of ANTF, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of ANTF, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of the respective commissionerate. The committee conducted a detailed review of judicial documents, case records, and physical weight parameters before authorising the disposal process to ensure compliance with statutory norms.
The incineration was carried out using eco-friendly methods under strict environmental and hazardous waste management protocols to prevent any harmful discharge into the environment.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Sunil Ramanand, Additional Director General (ADG), CID, and in the presence of Special IG ANTF Jyotipriya Singh, DIG ANTF Pravinkumar Patil, SP ANTF Aju Tare, and DCP Crime Nashik Kirankumar Chavan, along with senior police officers and personnel.

Officials said the destruction of the seized narcotics reflects the Maharashtra Police’s continued crackdown on drug trafficking networks and their commitment to dismantling the supply chain of illegal narcotic substances across the state.
