Pune: Sopan Baug Residents Allege PMC Neglect as Muddy Roads Trigger Accidents

Pune, 22nd May 2026: Residents of Anika Essentia Society in Sopan Baug have raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of the road leading to their residential area, alleging that repeated complaints to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and other authorities have failed to bring any concrete action.

According to residents, the road remains completely unmetalled and resembles a kaccha pathway instead of a proper urban road. Even light rainfall reportedly turns the stretch into a muddy and slippery route, causing severe inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists. With the monsoon approaching, locals fear the situation may worsen further.

Residents claimed that several accidents have already occurred due to the poor road condition. School-going children, senior citizens, and daily commuters are said to be among the worst affected. Elderly residents reportedly struggle to walk safely on the muddy surface, while children risk slipping while travelling to and from school.

The damaged road has also disrupted essential services in the locality. Residents alleged that delivery platforms such as Blinkit, along with cab aggregators including Ola and Uber, often avoid the area because of the inaccessible road conditions. They said this has created major inconvenience during emergencies and adverse weather conditions.

“What is most frustrating is that PMC continues to levy property taxes, yet basic road connectivity is missing,” a resident said. “Every time we raise complaints, officials provide excuses instead of solutions.”

Residents further claimed that despite approaching multiple government departments and civic authorities, the issue continues to be ignored. They alleged that although Sopan Baug falls within Pune city limits, the locality lacks even the basic infrastructure expected in an urban area.

Citizens are now demanding immediate intervention from PMC by constructing a proper tar road, improving drainage facilities, and ensuring safe accessibility before the monsoon intensifies.

Residents said they hope civic authorities will finally address the long-pending issue before another accident takes place on the neglected stretch.
