Pune: Severe Waterlogging Near Wadkar Mala on Mohammadwadi Road Raises Concerns Over Drainage System
Reported by Shoaib Tadvi
Mohammadwadi, 22nd May 2026: Heavy waterlogging was witnessed near Wadkar Mala on Mohammadwadi Road following rainfall, once again exposing the poor drainage infrastructure in the area. Large amounts of rainwater accumulated on the road, causing major inconvenience to daily commuters and local residents.
According to eyewitnesses, several two-wheeler riders faced serious difficulties while passing through the flooded stretch. Many scooters and motorcycles reportedly broke down after water entered their engines, forcing riders to push their vehicles through the waterlogged road.
Residents stated that the drainage problem in the area has persisted for a long time, but despite repeated complaints, no permanent solution has been implemented. Locals alleged that even moderate rainfall leads to severe water accumulation, making travel risky and increasing the chances of accidents.
Commuters expressed frustration over the condition of the road and questioned the preparedness of civic authorities ahead of the monsoon season. Traffic movement in the area was also affected for some time due to the flooding.
Reacting to the situation, Nana Bhangre, Chief of Shiv Sena Pune, criticised the civic administration and demanded immediate action to resolve the recurring drainage issue. He said citizens should not be forced to suffer every monsoon because of negligence and poor planning.
Residents have now urged the Pune Municipal Corporation to take urgent measures to improve the drainage system and prevent further inconvenience during the ongoing rainy season.
