Gahunje, 29th October 2026: A 34-year-old woman, Mugdha Deshmukh, daughter of retired Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation chief engineer Avinash Deshmukh, was found dead in a locked apartment at Lodha Belmondo in Gahunje, Pune, after her family reportedly lost contact with her.

The discovery has raised questions about her whereabouts in the weeks before her death, as immigration records reportedly indicate that she had left the United Kingdom in late August 2026. Her family, however, believed she was still living in London, where she had gone to pursue higher education.

The incident came to light on the night of Wednesday, October 28, when a police team from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar traced her location to the residential complex using online food delivery transactions. When officers reached the apartment, they found the door locked from inside. After noticing a foul smell coming from the flat, they broke open the door and found Mugdha’s decomposed body in a bedroom.

According to the complaint, Mugdha had moved to London in July 2025 to pursue an MBA following her husband’s death. She was reportedly living on her own, working part-time and staying in regular contact with her parents through video calls and messages.

Her last reported conversation with her mother took place on October 23. During the call, Mugdha reportedly said she was in a hurry because she had a job interview.

When her parents tried to contact her the next evening, her mobile phone was switched off. The subsequent loss of contact prompted concern among family members.

Pimpri Chinchwad Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. Further details about the cause of death and the events leading up to the discovery of her body are awaited.
