Pune: Supriya Sule Raises Alarm Over Anti-Social Activities Near Market Yard, Flags Harassment of Women Employees
Pune, 22nd May 2026: NCP (SP) leader and Baramati MP Supriya Sule on Thursday raised concerns over alleged anti-social activities and safety issues on a stretch near the Pune Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), urging the Pune police to take immediate action against local gangs operating in the area.
In a post shared on X, Sule said groups of youths regularly gather late at night on the road stretch between the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue near Jayshree Hotel and the gate of Nisarg, where NCP (SP) office is also located inside the Pune APMC premises. She alleged that people openly consume alcohol and smoke cigarettes on the roadside, while “anti-social activities” have also increased in the dark stretches of the road.
The MP further claimed that women employees working in offices located along the stretch, as well as other commuters, have faced verbal harassment and inappropriate remarks from such groups.
Sule said she had repeatedly followed up the matter with the state home department seeking action against the groups, but claimed that the situation had not improved.
“Police patrol teams visit the area, click photographs and leave. Nothing beyond that is happening,” she said in the post.
The MP urged the Pune police commissioner to intervene immediately, warning that the possibility of a serious or untoward criminal incident in the area could not be ruled out if preventive action is not taken.
She also demanded long-term measures to ensure the safety of women and local residents and to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future.
