Pune, 23rd May 2026: Hours after a video showing water leaking inside a Pune Metro coach sparked concern among passengers and raised questions over the quality of metro infrastructure, Pune Metro authorities have clarified that the water was not rainwater but condensation overflow caused by a technical issue in the air-conditioning system.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed water dripping inside one of the metro coaches, leading to confusion and discussions among commuters and citizens about the condition of the metro system. The video was circulated on Friday when city received heavy rainfall in the evening hours.

Clarifying the incident, a senior official of the Maha Metro said the incident took place on May 21, 2026, at around 6.40 pm in Train Set-5 stationed at Ramwadi Metro Station on Metro Line-2.

He said the water leakage was caused due to choking of the HVAC drainage system and was not linked to rainwater entering the coach.

“Dust accumulation led to blockage in the drainage pipe, due to which condensation water generated by the air-conditioning system could not flow out and started collecting inside the coach,” he said.

According to metro officials, the issue was immediately reported by the train operator, following which the concerned HVAC unit was shut down and the situation was brought under control.

The Pune Metro administration described the incident as a technical issue and appealed to citizens not to believe rumours or misinformation surrounding the viral video.
