Pune Road Rage: Couple and 3-Year-Old Child Assaulted in Wagholi After Traffic Dispute
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Wagholi, 28th May 2026: In a shocking incident of road rage, a couple and their three-year-old child were verbally abused and physically assaulted in the Wagholi area of Pune. The altercation was triggered after the husband advised the driver of a speeding car that had brushed against their motorcycle to drive properly.
The Wagholi Police have registered a case against four suspects—including the car driver, another male passenger, and two female passengers—under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to the police, the complainant, Shantanu Shukla (35), a resident of Ahilyanagar Road, Wagholi, had gone shopping with his wife and their three-year-old toddler to the Decathlon store in Wagholi on the evening of May 27 (Wednesday).
At approximately 7:00 PM (19:00 hrs), after finishing their shopping, the family was returning home on their motorcycle. As they were making a U-turn at the junction near Awhalwadi Phata (in front of Mohini Collection and Soyrik Garden on the Pune-Ahilyanagar Road), a white WagonR car speeding from the direction of Kharadi brushed against their two-wheeler.
Shaken by the dangerous driving, Shukla called out to the driver and advised him to “drive slowly/properly”.
The Brutal Assault
Enraged by the advice, the driver of the car and his fellow passengers stopped their vehicle. The suspects immediately began hurling vulgar abuses at Shukla. The situation escalated rapidly as the driver and another male passenger stepped out, blocked the couple, and began physically assaulting Shukla. One of the accused person has been identified as Aniket Shantaram Mungase.
When his wife intervened to protect him, the male suspects along with two female passengers in the car physically assaulted her as well. Shockingly, during this violent road rage attack, the couple’s three-year-old child was also injured.
Official Police Action and Legal Charges
Following the assault, Shukla filed an official complaint at the Wagholi Police Station. The police have formally registered an FIR (Crime Register No. 350/2026) against the four occupants of the car (the driver, one male passenger, and two female passengers).
The Wagholi Police have booked the suspects under the following sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and the Motor Vehicles Act (M.V. Act):
Section 115(2) BNS: Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt (formerly IPC Section 323).
Section 351(2) BNS: Criminal intimidation (formerly IPC Section 506) .
