Pune: Income Tax Department Sets Up 24×7 Control Room to Monitor Use of Money Power in Maharashtra MLC Polls
Pune, 2nd June 2026: The Income Tax Department has established a round-the-clock Election Monitoring Control Room in Pune to curb the misuse of cash and valuables during the upcoming biennial elections to the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) from Local Authorities’ Constituencies.
The control room has been set up as part of efforts to ensure free, fair and transparent elections and to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process during the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
According to officials, the facility will monitor election-related complaints and intelligence inputs from six constituencies — Pune, Thane, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Sangli-Satara, and Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg. The control room will remain operational throughout the period that the MCC is in force.
The department has appealed to citizens to report any information related to the use of unaccounted cash, valuables or other inducements allegedly being used for election campaigning. Officials said public participation is crucial in preventing the influence of money power on the electoral process.
Information can be shared with the department through a dedicated WhatsApp number, email or directly at the control room.
