Pune, 4th June 2026: Support Wings, a youth-driven organisation active in more than 70 cities across India, recently organised a volunteer trek to Sinhagad Fort aimed at promoting environmental awareness, responsible tourism, and youth engagement.
The initiative, held on April 12, brought together young volunteers who trekked to the historic fort to encourage visitors to maintain cleanliness, respect the natural environment, and adopt eco-friendly practices. The activity was designed to foster environmental responsibility and encourage active community participation among young people.
During the trek, volunteers also conducted a cleanliness drive after noticing litter scattered across parts of the fort premises.
“We noticed an area littered with plastic bottles and wrappers, so we cleaned the spot and distributed plastic garbage bags to local vendors and visitors to encourage proper waste disposal,” said Samarth Taori, Senior Director at Support Wings.
According to the organisation, the trek provided participants with an opportunity to connect with nature, develop leadership skills, and contribute to the preservation of public and heritage spaces.
Support Wings currently engages more than 10,000 young people through leadership programmes, internships, volunteer opportunities, and various social impact initiatives across the country.
“The response to the drive was encouraging. Both local residents and visitors appreciated the initiative and supported our efforts to promote cleanliness and responsible tourism,” said Rahul Kumar Manjhi, a volunteer with Support Wings.
Manjhi added that most participants were young people, with the majority falling within the 14 to 27 age group.
Support Wings said such initiatives highlight the growing role of youth in promoting environmental awareness and responsible behaviour at popular tourist and heritage destinations. The organisation believes young people can play a significant role in building environmentally conscious communities and preserving natural and cultural heritage for future generations.
