Pune: PCMC Imposes Rs 35,000 Fine for Illegal Dumping of Biomedical Waste in Chikhali

Pimpri Chinchwad, 6th June 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has imposed a penalty of Rs 35,000 on those responsible for illegally dumping biomedical waste in the open, citing risks to public health and the environment.

The action was taken by the civic body’s K Regional Office after biomedical waste was found dumped in the open at Sector 13 in Chikhali, under Ward No. 2. Civic officials said improper disposal of biomedical waste can lead to environmental pollution and pose serious health hazards to residents.

The enforcement drive was carried out under the directions of PCMC Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi and Additional Commissioner Kuldeep Jangam. The operation was supervised by Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Thengal, Assistant Commissioner Kiran Kumar More and K Regional Officer Ajinkya Yele.

Thengal said improper disposal of biomedical waste was extremely dangerous for both the environment and public health. He warned that action against violators of biomedical waste management rules would be intensified in the future.

Ajinkya Yele said scientific disposal of biomedical waste was mandatory from the standpoint of sanitation and public health. He added that strict and sustained action would continue against those found violating the rules.

The operation was conducted by a team led by Assistant Health Officer Yogesh Phalle and Chief Health Inspector Vaibhav Gholave, along with Health Inspector Rahul Rakhpasare, Health Assistant Amol Ghusar and personnel from the Maharashtra Security Force.

The civic administration said similar action would continue against those found disposing of biomedical waste in violation of prescribed norms and appealed to citizens and establishments to comply with waste management regulations to safeguard public health and the environment.
