Pune: PMC Drainage Work Damages Power Cable, 128 Magarpatta Homes Without Electricity for Nearly 24 Hours
Pune, 6th June 2026: Drainage pipeline work undertaken by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in the Magarpatta area triggered a prolonged power outage in a neighbouring housing society after an underground electricity cable was damaged during excavation, leaving 128 households without power for nearly 24 hours.
Electricity supply to residents of La Salette society was disrupted around 3 pm on Thursday and had not been fully restored till Friday evening.
According to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) officials, the outage occurred after a power cable was damaged during PMC’s drainage-laying work. Repair work was carried out and supply was briefly restored around 3 am on Friday, but the cable was damaged again as excavation continued.
The contractor executing the PMC project claimed that sections of the cable were not laid at the prescribed depth and, in some stretches, were not aligned with the designated corridor.
Residents said ongoing construction activity in the area has resulted in repeated disruptions over the past several months. The latest outage, however, was particularly severe, forcing residents to rely on diesel generators and causing difficulties for senior citizens, children and those working from home.
Residents of nearby housing societies also reported frequent power interruptions linked to infrastructure work in the area. While some societies experienced shorter outages, locals said electricity disruptions have become a recurring issue amid the ongoing civic works.
