Hyundai’s IONIQ Forest Connects Communities with Nature on World Environment Day in Pune
Pune, 6th June 2026: Marking World Environment Day, Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), organized a community engagement programme at its IONIQ Forest in Dange Chowk, Pune, bringing together more than 120 students, members of self-help groups, and local residents to promote environmental awareness and sustainable living.
The initiative highlighted HMIF’s commitment to climate action and community participation through the development of the IONIQ Forest, a 90.5-acre urban forest spread across Dange Chowk. Developed using the sustainable Miyawaki plantation method, the forest is home to more than one million trees of diverse species and serves as a significant green lung for the rapidly urbanising region.
The World Environment Day programme featured a series of interactive and educational activities designed to connect participants with nature. A guided Nature Trail introduced visitors to native plantation techniques, biodiversity conservation, and the ecological benefits of urban forests. Interactive sessions provided insights into forest ecosystems and explained how urban forests help mitigate the Urban Heat Island Effect.

Participants also attended demonstrations on sustainable living practices, including methods of converting organic waste into compost to improve soil health. A seed ball-making activity enabled attendees to create seed balls using native plant seeds, encouraging them to contribute to afforestation efforts in their own communities.
Students from Fergusson College, Haribhai V. Desai College, Lakshmibai Barne High School, Prerna High School, and Khivansara Patil High School participated in the event alongside members of local women’s self-help groups.
Through the IONIQ Forest initiative, HMIF reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability, climate resilience, and community collaboration. The foundation said the project aims not only to increase green cover but also to inspire collective action towards building a cooler, greener, and more environmentally responsible future.
