Pune, 6th June 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pune division, seized suspected adulterated dairy products worth Rs 47.36 lakh during simultaneous raids at 17 locations across the city on Saturday. The special drive targeted paneer and khoya traders operating in Somwar Peth, Budhwar Peth, Shukrawar Peth, Kothrud and Hadapsar.

The action was carried out under FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe’s ‘Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra’ campaign. During the inspections, officials found unlabelled stock, food products stored without purchase invoices, items kept in unhygienic conditions and stock suspected to be adulterated.

A total of 17,031 kg of dairy products, including paneer, khoya, cheese analogue (a cheese substitute made using vegetable oils and other ingredients) and ghee, were seized. The confiscated stock comprised 13,127 kg of khoya valued at Rs 34.35 lakh, 2,806 kg of paneer worth Rs 7.55 lakh, 960 kg of ghee worth Rs 5.16 lakh and 138 kg of cheese analogue valued at Rs 28,725.

FDA officials collected 35 samples of khoya, paneer, cheese analogue and ghee from the establishments and sent them for laboratory analysis. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the establishments for alleged violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules framed under it.

Further action will be taken after laboratory reports are received, officials said. Digambar Bhogawade, Joint Commissioner of FDA’s food wing in Pune, warned that similar action would continue against businesses found compromising public health through the sale of substandard or adulterated food products.
