Pune, 6th June 2026: In a significant development for Pune’s business community, several key decisions have been taken to address concerns raised by traders regarding business operating hours, enforcement of regulations, and coordination with the police administration.

The decisions were discussed during a special coordination meeting of trader associations chaired by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. The meeting was attended by Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Darade, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Tejaswi Satpute, DCP (Crime) Gauhar Hasan, BJP Vyapari Aghadi Pune City President Mahesh Gupta, and representatives of various trader associations.

The meeting focused on confusion surrounding the operating hours of shops and commercial establishments, varying implementation of rules across different parts of the city, the need for respectful treatment of traders, and strengthening coordination between the business community and the police administration.

During the discussion, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar clarified that all authorised and licensed shops and commercial establishments are permitted to operate 24 hours a day in accordance with the law. He further stated that roadside stalls, handcart vendors, hawkers, paan shops, and similar businesses are allowed to operate until 10 pm.

The clarification is expected to address concerns and confusion among traders regarding business timings and regulatory compliance.

To facilitate quicker resolution of complaints, suggestions, and issues faced by traders, the police administration has also decided to appoint a dedicated nodal officer. The move is aimed at establishing a direct and effective communication channel between traders and the police, enabling faster grievance redressal.

According to participants, the demand for a dedicated nodal officer had been consistently pursued by Mahesh Gupta, who played a key role in raising traders’ concerns before the authorities. Trader associations welcomed the decision and expressed their appreciation to the Pune Police for taking proactive steps to address their issues.

Speaking after the meeting, Mahesh Gupta expressed confidence that the decisions would strengthen coordination between the business community and the police administration while helping resolve trader-related issues more efficiently.

He said the initiatives would remove ambiguity regarding business operations and create a more supportive environment for traders across Pune city.
