Pune: Residents Protest Outside PMC Over Contaminated Water Supply, Warn of Escalating Agitation
Pune, 8th June 2026: Residents and local leaders staged a protest outside the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters on Monday against the alleged supply of contaminated drinking water and irregular water distribution in several parts of the city.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner and Mayor, demanding immediate corrective measures and accusing the civic administration of failing to address a problem that they said was affecting public health.
Raising slogans against the civic body, the protesters demanded an immediate halt to the supply of contaminated water, regular distribution of clean drinking water and action against officials responsible for the lapses.
According to the protesters, complaints regarding yellowish and polluted water have been increasing from several localities, with residents expressing concern over the potential health risks posed by the poor quality of water being supplied.
The agitation was led by corporators Sheetal Sawant, Nandini Dhede, Suhas Tingre and Ravi Tingre, along with former deputy mayor Siddharth Dhende. A large number of residents, social activists and representatives of various organisations participated in the protest.
The protesters also urged the civic administration to rectify deficiencies in the water supply system before implementing any proposed water rationing measures. They warned that if the issues related to contaminated water are not resolved promptly, the agitation would be intensified in the coming days.
