Pune: Contract Worker Dies After Suspected Explosion Inside Khadki Ammunition Factory

Khadki, 10th June 2026: A contract worker died after a suspected explosive object detonated inside the premises of the Ammunition Factory in Khadki, Pune, police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon while the worker was near an ongoing construction site within the factory campus.

The deceased has been identified as Kartik Barman, a contract labourer employed at the facility. According to police, construction of a toilet block was underway as part of a development project inside the factory premises.

At around 3 pm on Monday, Barman reportedly went to the construction site to drink water. Plumbing materials had been stored in the area. While sitting on a nearby step, he allegedly came into contact with a suspicious object, which suddenly exploded.

The blast left Barman critically injured. He was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Senior Inspector Vikram Kadam of Khadki Police Station said the exact nature of the object involved in the explosion is yet to be determined. Investigators are examining whether it was an explosive device and how it came to be present at the location.

Police have registered an accidental death case and launched an investigation into the incident. Further inquiries are underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the explosion.
