Pune Family Loses Rs 24.35 Lakh as Thieves Target Flat During Pilgrimage
Pune, 15th June 2026: A daring burglary was reported at a residential society on Sinhagad Road in Pune, where unidentified thieves allegedly broke into a locked apartment and decamped with cash and jewellery worth ₹24.35 lakh while the occupants were away on a pilgrimage.
According to police, the incident took place at Madhuban Society in the Sinhagad Road area. The complainant, a resident of the society, had left for Tuljapur and Pandharpur with her family on June 12 for a religious pilgrimage.
Taking advantage of the family’s absence, the burglars allegedly broke the lock of the apartment’s main entrance and gained entry into the house. They then searched the premises and stole gold and silver ornaments, along with cash kept in a cupboard, resulting in a total loss of ₹24.35 lakh.
The theft came to light when the family returned home at around 7:15 a.m. on June 14. They found the house ransacked and household items strewn across the rooms. Upon checking the cupboards, they discovered that the cash and valuables were missing.
Following the complaint, a case has been registered against unidentified persons at Parvati Police Station. Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Sahane visited the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. Police teams have collected CCTV footage from the surrounding area and launched an investigation to identify the culprits.
