Pimpri-Chinchwad, 15th June 2026: In a major relief for residents of newly merged villages under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), the proposal to implement a new property tax classification system has been shelved.

The issue was formally tabled and subsequently filed during the PCMC General Body meeting held on Monday, effectively halting the proposed changes.

Under the proposed tax structure, newly constructed residential units and commercial properties in recently merged areas, including Wakad, Tathawade, Punawale, Chikhali and Charholi, were likely to face higher property taxes.

Speaking on the development, PCMC corporator Rahul Tanaji Kalate said he had strongly opposed any increase in taxes in areas where residents continue to face inadequate civic amenities.
“As public representatives, we maintained that citizens should not be burdened with higher taxes when basic infrastructure and civic services remain insufficient,” Kalate said.

With the proposal now set aside, no new tax structure will be implemented in the newly included villages under the municipal limits, providing significant relief to residents and property owners.

Kalate also said that priority would be given to improving civic infrastructure and public services in these areas. He thanked Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his support on the issue.

The newly merged villages have witnessed rapid urbanisation in recent years, with residents frequently raising concerns over inadequate roads, water supply, drainage systems and other essential civic facilities.
