Pimpri Chinchwad, 17th June 2026: Three days after theatre artists publicly highlighted the lack of basic facilities at the Ramkrishna More Auditorium in Chinchwad, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has started installing air-conditioning units in the auditorium’s make-up rooms.

The move comes after artists associated with the popular Marathi play ‘Albatya Galbatya’ posted a video on social media complaining about the absence of air-conditioning and other basic amenities at the civic-run auditorium. The issue also received attention after it was highlighted in media reports, prompting the civic administration to take action.

According to officials, work on installing air-conditioners in the make-up rooms began on Tuesday. Artists said they had been pursuing the demand for nearly three years and welcomed the administration’s swift response after the issue gained public attention.

Actor Shraddha Hande said the intention behind the video was not publicity but to draw attention to the lack of basic facilities for performing artists. She said the municipal commissioner personally contacted the artistes to understand the concerns and work on the installation began within 48 hours.

The issue had reignited concerns about the condition of several auditoriums in Maharashtra, where artists and theatre groups have repeatedly complained about inadequate infrastructure and poor maintenance despite such venues hosting regular cultural programmes and theatrical performances.

Mayor Ravi Landge said the civic body has directed officials to provide all necessary facilities required by artists at the auditorium. He added that instructions have also been issued to improve cleanliness and undertake repair and maintenance works at the venue.

“Ramkrishna More Auditorium hosts a large number of cultural events and theatre performances. We have asked the administration to ensure that artists are provided with the facilities they require, including air-conditioning and other basic amenities,” Landge said.

Artists said they were encouraged that the administration had not merely assured action but had initiated work on the ground. They expressed hope that the remaining infrastructure issues at the auditorium would also be addressed in the coming days.
