Pune: PCMC Cuts Water Supply by 15% as Pavana Dam Storage Falls to 19%
Pimpri Chinchwad, 19th June 2026: With the usable water stock in the Pavana dam dropping to just 19% and the monsoon delayed this year, the Pune Irrigation Department has directed the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to reduce water supply to the city by 15%. The cut came into effect on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Appealing to residents to use water judiciously, Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi said the reduction was necessary to ensure planned management of the available water stock until rainfall improves the situation.
Pimpri Chinchwad receives its water supply from the Pavana dam. Civic officials said that with only 19% usable storage currently available and uncertainty over the timely arrival of monsoon rains, strict and systematic management of water resources has become essential to meet the city’s growing demand in the coming weeks.
Based on the instructions issued by the Pune Irrigation Department, the civic administration has implemented the 15% reduction in water supply across the city, Chief Engineer Pramod Ombase said.
Suryawanshi urged citizens to actively participate in water conservation efforts by avoiding wastage. He appealed to residents not to wash vehicles unnecessarily, overwater gardens or leave taps running.
“Water supply has been reduced by 15% to ensure planned management of the available water stock. Citizens should use water very carefully. Activities such as washing vehicles, providing excess water to gardens and leaving taps running unnecessarily should be avoided. Water conservation is a collective responsibility of every citizen, and residents should cooperate with the municipal corporation by following water-saving practices,” Suryawanshi said.
