Pune NDRF on High Alert: Rescue Teams Deployed in 12 Maharashtra Locations and Goa
Pune, 3rd July 2026: In a bid to strengthen disaster preparedness during the ongoing monsoon season, the 05 Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Pune, has pre-positioned its teams at strategic locations across Maharashtra and Goa from July 1, 2026.
The deployment has been carried out in consultation with the Maharashtra State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and NDRF Headquarters to ensure a swift response to monsoon-related emergencies.
NDRF teams have been stationed in Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Dharashiv, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Thane, Palghar, Mumbai, Nagpur and North Goa. The personnel will remain deployed throughout the monsoon season to respond to any emergencies.
According to Commandant Santosh Bahadur Singh of the 5th Battalion, Maharashtra and Goa are the primary areas of responsibility for the Pune-based battalion. He said the deployment locations were identified after assessing the region’s geographical vulnerabilities, past disaster trends and weather forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
“The tactical pre-positioning of NDRF teams significantly reduces response time during emergencies, enabling timely rescue, evacuation and relief operations during floods, landslides, urban flooding, building collapses and other monsoon-related incidents,” Singh said.
Each deployed team has been equipped with specialised search and rescue equipment, flood rescue resources, communication systems and trained personnel capable of handling a wide range of disaster situations.
The NDRF said its teams are working in close coordination with district administrations, State Disaster Management Authorities and other stakeholder agencies to ensure an effective and coordinated emergency response.
Reiterating the force’s preparedness, Singh said the NDRF remains ready to respond to both natural and man-made disasters and is committed to safeguarding lives while minimising the impact of disasters through timely intervention, professional response and close coordination with all concerned agencies.
The advance deployment comes as several parts of Maharashtra continue to receive heavy rainfall, with authorities remaining on alert for potential floods, landslides and other weather-related emergencies during the monsoon.
