Amit Shah’s Pune visit: BJP Warns Congress of ‘tit-for-tat’ Response if Protests Disrupt Programme

Pune, 29th July 2026: The political temperature in Pune has started to rise ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the city on August 1, with the BJP warning the Congress of a “tit-for-tat” response if it stages protests during Shah’s programme.

BJP Pune city president Dheeraj Ghate said the party would respond to what he described as “stunt politics” by the Congress, stating, “The area may be yours, but the blast will be ours.”

Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval are scheduled to visit Pune to attend the presentation of the Lokmanya Tilak National Award. Against this backdrop, a BJP delegation met Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and urged the police not to grant permission to the Congress to stage a protest during Shah’s visit.

Ghate alleged that the Congress was attempting to create controversy around the visit of a leader who, according to him, had worked to strengthen national security. He also accused the Congress of trying to disturb peace and create an adverse atmosphere in Pune.

“If the Congress is allowed to stage a protest, the BJP should also be allowed to hold a counter-protest. If the situation leads to a law-and-order problem, the Congress will be responsible for it,” Ghate said.

He further warned that the BJP would not tolerate any attempt to disturb peace in Pune and would respond “in the same manner” to any such move.

The BJP delegation included corporators Ravi Salegaonkar, Bapu Mankar, Puneet Joshi, Deepak Pote, Vishwas Nanaware, Sushil Mengade and Amar Awale, along with BJP Mahila Morcha Pune city president Manisha Ladkat and Yuva Morcha president Dushyant Mohol, among others.
