Rs 8 Official Rate, But Charged Rs 50? Pune Commuters Allege Overcharging at Camp Parking Lots

Camp, 30th July 2026: Several commuters have alleged overcharging, non-issuance of receipts and intimidating behaviour by parking attendants at Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) pay-and-park facilities across the Camp area, including MG Road, Fashion Street and other parking locations.
Motorists claim they are routinely charged more than the officially approved parking rates and face aggressive behaviour when they question the charges.
The PCB’s pay-and-park contract is managed by SGD Sai Group Developers.
Official Parking Charges
According to the Pune Cantonment Board, the approved parking charges are:
Two-wheelers: ₹8 for up to four hours and ₹15 for a full day.
Three-wheelers: ₹15 for up to four hours and ₹23 for a full day.
Four-wheelers: ₹30 for up to four hours and ₹60 for a full day.
However, commuters alleged that two-wheeler riders are frequently charged between ₹15 and ₹20, while in some instances they have been asked to pay as much as ₹30 to ₹35. At certain parking locations on MG Road, motorists claimed they were charged ₹50 for four-wheelers, despite the approved rate being ₹30 for parking up to four hours.
Commuters Allege Receipts Are Often Not Issued
Several commuters also claimed that parking attendants frequently collect parking fees without issuing receipts, making it difficult for motorists to verify the amount paid or lodge complaints regarding the alleged overcharging.
Commuter Vinaya Shil shared her experience:
“At first, they didn’t even give me a receipt and asked me to pay twice. The third time, when I tried to record a video, they initially asked me to pay ₹50. After they realised I was recording, they reduced the charge to ₹8.”
She said the incident raised concerns over the transparency of parking fee collection.
“Go Ahead and Complain to Whoever You Want”
Another commuter at Fashion Street alleged that parking attendants intimidate people who question the charges.
“They raise their voices and tell us, ‘Go ahead and complain to whoever you want. Do whatever you can. I don’t care.’ They behave as though they control the parking area and no one can question them.”
Commuter Vishal Joshi also expressed concern over the conduct of some parking attendants.
“The people collecting money at Fashion Street behave as though they own the parking area. They use abusive language, misbehave with commuters and sometimes even threaten people. Many people avoid arguing with them because they fear confrontation.”
QR Payment Scanners Allegedly Obstruct Rate Boards
Commuters further alleged that at the Fashion Street parking facility, the official PCB parking rate board has been partially covered by QR code payment scanners, preventing motorists from seeing the approved parking charges. They claimed this enables attendants to demand arbitrary amounts from vehicle owners who are unaware of the official rates.
PCB CEO Assures Strict Action
Responding to the complaints, PCB Chief Executive Officer Vidyadhar Vasudeo Pawar said the Pune Cantonment Board had recently increased the official parking charges by 50 per cent. However, he clarified that only the revised PCB-approved rates are applicable and that no one is authorised to collect more than the prescribed charges.
“We have increased the parking charges by 50 per cent. However, if anyone is collecting more than the approved rates, strict action will be taken. Citizens can file complaints through email with supporting documents such as payment receipts, screenshots or parking slips. Necessary action will be taken against those found violating the rules. I will also instruct the contractor to look into the issue.”
Pawar appealed to commuters to pay only the officially approved parking charges.
“Parking rate boards have been installed at every authorised parking location. Citizens should check the displayed rates and pay only the prescribed amount. No one should pay any excess charge.”
Commuters Seek Immediate Action
Commuters have urged the Pune Cantonment Board and SGD Sai Group Developers to conduct surprise inspections at parking facilities across the Camp area, ensure that official parking rate boards remain clearly visible, prevent QR code payment stands from obstructing the displayed tariff boards, ensure receipts are issued for every transaction, and take strict action against attendants found overcharging or intimidating members of the public.
